Paraeducator Generalist Certificate Courses
Great Prairie AEA offers the Paraeducator Generalist Certificate Program in three 30-hour courses.  All three courses are blended format and involve an online component .  The focus of paraeducator training includes behavior management, skills to work with students, and roles and responsibilities.
Currently, the next scheduled set of courses will be held at the GPAEA office in Ottumwa and are scheduled to begin in February.  Please visit our online course catalog for more information or to register.
Paraeducator Level II Courses
For Paraeducators who already hold a Generalist Certificate and would like to advance to a Level II Generalist with Area of Concentration, Great Prairie has two different Level II courses planned.  These courses may be used for recertification hours to renew Paraeducator certificates.
Paraeducator Certification Level II Generalist with Area of Concentration: Special Needs is scheduled to be held at the GPAEA office in Burlington this fall.  Participants will develop skills and strategies to understand and implement IEP goals and objectives, demonstrate understanding of special instructional strategies for students with various needs, rationale and use of data collection, and assistive technology to meet students needs.

  1. I’m interested in a general renewal of my Para educator certification. It expires in March of 2014. Thank you for your prompt reply

    • Wendy,

Hello! We have quite a few classes scheduled that offer Paraeducator recertification credit! Two classes that run in the afternoon/evening actually begin tomorrow (September 5th). One is held at West Burlington Elementary, but is open to anyone – Mobile Devices in the classroom. The other is held at the AEA office in Burlington – Love & Logic Basic (behavior/classroom management). You could take the Level II Special Needs course which offers 3 credits (more information above) and/or the Substitute Authorization which is good for 1 credit. There are courses on both the Burlington and Ottumwa sides begin offered by GPAEA Autism Specialists and GPAEA School Psychologists.

Course can be found in the online course catalog (link in first paragraph). It is in order by start date. The target audience will include Paraeducators if the course is being offered for Paraeducator recertification credit. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
