Attention school nurses, physical education teachers and coaches!
The Southeast Iowa Regional Coalition for Lifestyle Enhancement (SIRCLE) is sponsoring the 7th Healthy Lifestyles Conference on April 3rd from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Comfort Suites in Burlington.
The day will feature speakers who will focus on health and obesity issues plus three breakout sessions to discuss other health areas of concern. Zonya Foco, RD, CHFI, CSP, will be making a return engagement to the conference. She also spoke at the 2010 Healthy Lifestyles Conference. This year Zonya will presenting twice, How to Make Nutrition Exciting, Fun and Inspiring and Conviction over Convenience: Staying Healthy in a Culture that’s ANYTHING BUT! Zonya is an author, dietitian, TV host, and national speaker who teaches families across the country the hard facts of good nutrition.
Barbara Chamberlin, PhD, is the Extension Instructional Design and Educational Media Specialist at New Mexico State University, where she develops educational games, interactive modules and other learning tools. In Dr. Chamberlin’s presentation Pushing My Buttons: What the iPhone, Gaming, and Social Media Mean to Nutrition Education, she’ll share several examples of the ways technology changes the way we approach our work, as well as her approach in developing tools for nutrition and health education.
Conference participants will also choose from three different break-out session topics: Complete Streets – A Community Goal by Mark Wyatt, Spend Smart, Eat Smart by Peggy Martin, RD, MS, and School Lunches – Are they Healthy? by Amanda Miller and Angela Mitchell.
The conference is for health professionals, school personnel, community leaders, and the general public. Registrations received before March 25th are $75 per person, and $95 after the 25th. The student registration fee is $25. There will be .6 Continuing Education Credits available for nurses through Southeastern Community College (provider number 24) on the day of the conference. Registration includes lunch, beverage break, and conference materials.
